NEW ORLEANS, LA --The Delaware State women's basketball team got a 36-point showing from the bench, but fell 76-44 to the Tulane Green Wave on the road Saturday.
Nevaeh Reaves led the Hornets (3-10) with 18 points. Toni Smith tacked on six points off the bench and Kaitlyn Adams chipped in as well with seven points and two steals off the bench.
Layla Burton pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Delaware State, grabbing 12 boards and turning them into eight second chance points.
The Delaware State defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 19 Tulane turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 20 points on the offensive end of the floor. Adams' two steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened
Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 48-8 halftime deficit.
Tulane continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 56-13 advantage before Delaware State went on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a three from Reaves, to trim its deficit to 56-21 with 2:51 to go in the third. The Hornets continued to reduce the Tulane lead, shrinking it to 61-27 by the end of the third quarter. Delaware State knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 19 total points.
Tulane kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 76-39 advantage before Delaware State went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 76-44 with one second to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Delaware State took advantage of six Tulane turnovers in the quarter, scoring 11 points off of those takeaways.
