Frierson and Scott combine for 29 in Hornets Loss to Georgetown 60-46

WASHINGTON, DC --Jermesha Frierson scored 18 points and Amya Scott had 11 more, but the Hornets fell to the Georgetown Hoyas 60-46 on the road Saturday.

The Hornets (3-9) had two players score in double figures, led by Frierson, who had 18 points and three steals. Scott tacked on 11 points off the bench and Liliana Harrison added five points.

Led by Iman Addison's three offensive rebounds, Delaware State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.

Delaware State did a great job disrupting Georgetown shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Anise Geiger led the way individually for the Hornets with three rejections.

 

How It Happened

After falling behind 9-2, Delaware State went on a 6-0 run with 6:39 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Scott, to narrow its deficit to 9-8. Georgetown answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 19-16 entering the second quarter.

The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 37-26 halftime deficit.

Delaware State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 52-32 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Delaware State took advantage of four Georgetown turnovers in the quarter, scoring two points off of takeaways.

Delaware State narrowed its deficit to 58-41 before going on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 58-46 with 1:57 to go in the contest. Georgetown responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 60-46. Delaware State took advantage of eight Georgetown turnovers in the quarter, scoring nine points off of those takeaways.
