PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Delaware State Men Basketball Program opened their season in a battle against the Owls at the Liacouras center on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025.
Zion Bethea, Ponce James, and Ademar Santos combined to score 51 of Delaware State's 65 total points, but the Hornets fell to the Temple Owls 83-65 on the road.
Bethea led the Hornets (0-1) with 20 points and eight rebounds. James tacked on 16 points, five assists and two steals and Santos chipped in as well with 15 points off of the bench.
How It Happened
During the first half, Zion Bethea and Ademar Santos served as the focal points of the Hornets' offense, attacking the paint with power while combining for three of Delaware State's 15 made field goals. However, the Owls countered with strong defensive pressure, forcing 16 turnovers throughout the game. The Hornets continued to struggle early, trailing 35–27 at halftime, and were unable to close the gap in the second half, ultimately falling 83–65.
