Hornets Fall 72-41 to FDU

HACKENSACK, NJ --The Delaware State women's basketball team got a 23-point performance from the bench, but fell 72-41 to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights on the road Wednesday.

Ericka Huggins led the Hornets (2-4) with five points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Nevaeh Reaves added seven points and three steals and Liliana Harrison helped out with 12 points off the bench.

Led by Iman Addison's three offensive rebounds, Delaware State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in seven second chance points.

The Delaware State defense held Fairleigh Dickinson shooters to only 39.3 percent from the field.

 

How It Happened

Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 22-5 at the end of the first quarter.

The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 38-17 halftime deficit.

Delaware State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 63-28 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Delaware State knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 11 total points.

Fairleigh Dickinson kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 69-29 advantage before Delaware State went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 69-36 with 4:25 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept their comeback going, but Fairleigh Dickinson managed to hold on for the 72-41 win. Delaware State took advantage of six Fairleigh Dickinson turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
