Five Hornets score in double digits in Delaware State's 88-70 victory over Cheyney

DOVER, DE --Five Hornets scored in double digits and Delaware State defeated the 88-70 at home Tuesday.

The Hornets (1-4) had five players score in double figures, led by Rahmir Moore, who had 17 points. Corey Perkins tacked on 16 points and two steals off of the bench and Zion Bethea helped out with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Delaware State shared the ball well in Tuesday's game, racking up 21 assists on 32 made field goals. Ponce James' nine assists led the Hornets.

Delaware State forced 16 turnovers while committing 14 themselves in Tuesday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. Bethea's three steals led the way for Delaware State.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 17-10 advantage, Delaware State went on a 12-0 run with 12:54 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Bethea, to increase its lead to 29-10. The Hornets then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 49-27 advantage. Delaware State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down nine shots to account for 27 of its 49 points.

Delaware State kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Ademar Santos' three, to grow the lead to 73-53 with 8:03 to go in the contest. The narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still cruised the rest of the way for the 88-70 win. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 39 points in the lane.
