DOVER, DE --The Delaware State women's basketball team got a 38-point showing from the bench, but fell 70-56 to the LIU Sharks at home Saturday.
The Hornets (2-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Aniyah Jones, who had 12 points. Amya Scott added 12 points off the bench and Mahogany Cottingham helped out with 10 points and three steals.
The Delaware State defense held LIU shooters to only 36.4 percent from the field.

How It Happened
After falling behind 13-4, Delaware State went on a 10-0 run with 4:18 left in the first quarter to take a 14-13 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 16-14.
LIU kept adding to that lead, building a 28-20 advantage before Delaware State went on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Zyan Reynolds, to tie the game at 28. LIU then took control, putting the Hornets at a 31-28 disadvantage heading into halftime.
Delaware State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 60-44 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Delaware State played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 16 points in the paint.
Delaware State narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 70-56. Delaware State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.
