Durham, North Carolina --The Delaware State men's basketball team saw all five starters score in double figures, but it was not enough in a 75-72 loss to the North Carolina Central Eagles on the road Monday.
The Hornets (8-10, 1-3) had five players score in double figures, led by Kaseem Watson, who had 18 points. Martaz Robinson tacked on 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals and Muneer Newton helped out with 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
Robinson pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Delaware State offense which grabbed 11 boards and turned them into 17 second chance points.
Delaware State forced 13 North Carolina Central turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 16 points on the other end of the floor. Newton's two steals led the way for Delaware State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 27-23, Delaware State went on a 6-0 run with 4:36 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Robert Smith, to take a 29-27 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 33-31.
After intermission, Delaware State managed to gain control and had a 39-37 lead before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 44-37 with 15:32 to go in the contest. North Carolina Central then asserted control, outscoring the Hornets 38-28 the rest of the way to hand Delaware State the 75-72 loss. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 41 points in the lane.
