MEMORIAL HALL, --Kaseem Watson and Martaz Robinson both recorded double-doubles to help lead the Delaware State men's basketball team over the 126-38 at home Saturday.
The Hornets (9-10) had six players score in double figures, led by Watson, who had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Robert Smith added 19 points and five assists and Raymond Somerville helped out with 12 points and seven rebounds off of the bench.
Delaware State did a great job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 30 assists while turning the ball over six times. Robinson's eight assists were the most for the Hornets.
Delaware State did a great job disrupting shots in the contest, coming away with eight blocks. Dean Shepherd led the way individually for the Hornets with two rejections.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 18-4 advantage, Delaware State went on a 22-0 run with 14:05 left in the first half to increase its lead to 40-4. The Hornets then added 15 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 65-14 advantage. Delaware State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 38 of its 65 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, Delaware State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 86-27 before going on a 12-0 run, finished off by Corey Perkins' layup, to grow the lead to 98-27 with 8:53 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 126-38 win. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 42 of its 61 points in the lane.
