Orangeburg, SC --Kaseem Watson hit a buzzer-beating shot as time expired to lead the Delaware State men's basketball team past the South Carolina State Bulldogs 76-75 on the road Saturday.
The Hornets (8-9, 1-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Watson, who had 23 points. Robert Smith tacked on 21 points and Ponce James helped out with 16 points off the bench.
The Delaware State offense was very productive from beyond the arc, making eight threes on 13 attempts. Smith was the most prolific shooter for the Hornets, draining five treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 36-26, Delaware State went on an 8-0 run with 6:12 left in the first half, culminating in a three from James, to narrow its deficit to 36-34. South Carolina State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 38-34 entering halftime.
Delaware State narrowed its deficit to 54-51 before going on a 5-0 run to seize a 56-54 lead with 10:43 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still held on for the 76-75 win.
