DOVER, DE --The Delaware State volleyball team secured a three-set win (25-18, 25-14, 25-12) against the Morgan State Lady Bears Sunday at home at Memorial Hall.
The win moved the Hornets' record to 5-9 overall and 1-0 in MEAC action.
The Hornets were led by a double-double from Gerren Tomlin, who registered 16 kills and 10 digs on the day. Aaliyah Mitchell also added nine kills to help the attack.Paige Ahakuelo also pitched in with five in the contest. On the defensive end, Morgan Allen chipped in for with 11 digs to go with three blocks from Mitchell.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets took set one 25-18 powered by a solid showing on the attacking side. Delaware State registered a .314 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set victory. The Hornets ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Delaware State carried momentum from a set-one win by earning a 25-14 victory in set two. The Hornets grabbed control of the set lead early on at 3-2 and never looked back. Delaware State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 11 points, to close out the set. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from six aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Delaware State took the third set to earn a victory by sweep. The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-12 victory. Delaware State ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 13 points, to close out the set, collecting 16 kills in the process.
