HARRISONBURG, VA --Gerren Tomlin and Valeria Otero both recorded double-doubles, but the Delaware State volleyball team was defeated by the Presbyterian Blue Hose 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 6-15) Saturday at JMU Convocation Center.

The non-conference loss dropped Delaware State to 0-3 on the season.

The Hornets were led by double-doubles from both Otero, who had 11 kills and 12 digs, and Tomlin, who had 13 kills and 18 digs. Martyna Kmuk also added 11 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Morgan Allen chipped in for with 18 digs to go with seven blocks from Kelsie Dawson.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hornets grabbed control on the first point and never looked back to win the first set 25-21. Delaware State led by five points at 13-8 before closing out the set, collecting 18 kills in the process.

SET 2 | Delaware State then dropped the second set 25-23, evening things at a set each. Presbyterian grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that was knotted up 10 times before the Blue Hose took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Delaware State then dropped their second set in a row, falling behind in the match two sets to one. The Hornets came up short by the score of 25-20. Delaware State trailed by as many as six points as Presbyterian grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up five times before the Blue Hose took over the lead.

SET 4 | Delaware State broke their two set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a 25-21 victory in set number four. The Hornets took the lead for good at 20-19 in a set that featured six ties and five lead changes. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the set.

SET 5 | After dropping sets two and three, Delaware State won set four, tying things up at 2-2 to force a fifth set, but couldn't complete the comeback, losing the set 15-6 and the match 3-2. The Hornets fell behind by as many as nine points before losing the fifth set.
