Hornets Start the 2024 Season Making their First Appearance Against Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii –– Delaware State football comes into this game being the first HBCU to play Hawaii since 1979 and looks to be a part of history Saturday evening versus Hawaii.

"The time change, the travel, and the logistics, We're looking forward to this game," said head coach Lee Hull during a special week 0 MEAC Weekly interview call.

MEAC PRESEASON  ALL-CONFERENCE

Edward Core was named to the preseason all-conference second-team offense. Core returns as a powerhouse tight end, collecting 424 receiving yards and three touchdowns last season.

Standout Defensive Lineman Darren Cook was named to the preseason all-conference second-team defense. Cook totaled 36 tackles last season, 21 solo tackles, and 15 assisted. Rounding off for the Hornets, Eric Montes secured a spot on the preseason all-conference second-team

RETURNING STARTERS

The Hornets return a total of nine starters on the offensive side of the ball, and six starters on the defensive side. 

COACHING CHANGES

The Hornets added one new coach for 2024: Wide receiver coach Preston Brown.

Coach Brown joined the Hornets after spending the last season as the tight ends coach at the University of Maryland. At Maryland, Brown contributed to a passing game that produced four offensive players with 40+ catches and over 2,000 yards of receiving production.

• UH has won its last 20 games against FCS teams dating back to 2001 with an average win margin of 25.9 points per game.

• UH has a 3-4 all-time record in Week 0 including a 1-1 mark at home.

• Hawai'i is 63-39-5 (.612) all-time in season openers, including a 30-29-1 mark against collegiate opponents.
