GAME 1 | Delaware State 14, Stonehill 13
DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets rallied to score four in the ninth inning and walked it off on a single off the bat of senior Krew Bouldin to pick up the 14-13 win over the Stonehill Skyhawks Friday.
Senior Kobe Head (0-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Delaware State (14-22, ). The right-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit.
The Hornets scored in six different innings on the way to the win. Delaware State broke a 13-13 tie and took the lead for good at 14-13 in the ninth inning, walking it off The big hit for the Hornets in the inning was a one-run single off the bat of Krew Bouldin. Sophomore Jack Messmore struck out six Skyhawks hitters and sophomore Nathan Vidmar fanned five for the Hornets. The Hornets power output was led by sophomore Evan Bouldin, who compiled two extra base hits in the ballgame.
Evan Bouldin led the Hornets at the plate, going 5-for-6 with a double, a home run and four RBI. Stonehill was led offensively by senior Ciulla-Hall, who went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and four RBI.
GAME 2 | Stonehill 7, Delaware State 2
DOVER, DE --Senior Jancarlos Colon racked up four hits, but the Delaware State Hornets fell to the Stonehill Skyhawks 7-2 on Friday.
Freshman Rocardo Gonzalez got the ball to start for Delaware State (15-23, ) and took the loss. The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on one hit, allowing three walks and striking out seven.
Colon's four-hit day led the Hornets offensively. Sophomore Joey Current put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Senior Kodai Yaoita also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
The Hornets were trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State got an RBI single from Yaoita, scoring senior Wilfredo Mendez from second base.
The Skyhawks expanded their lead to 4-1 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the eighth. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Current, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Skyhawks. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Stonehill added three runs to their tally on the way to a 7-2 final. Stonehill was led offensively by senior Ciulla-Hall, who went 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run and two RBI. Junior R. Douglas led the Skyhawks pitching staff, throwing seven innings of one-run ball.
