Delaware State Falls to Central Connecticut State 17-9 Despite Eighth-Inning Lead

NEW BRITAIN, CT --The Delaware State Hornets took a 9-8 lead into the eighth inning, but could not hang on and fell 17-9 to the Cent. Conn. St. Blue Devils Saturday.

Evan Harris started and took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (22-25, 20-13). P. Carreca was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.

The Hornets were trailing 5-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of K. Bouldin and a two-run triple from K. Yaoita.

After the Blue Devils rallied to tie the ballgame at seven, the Hornets came back to retake the lead in the sixth inning. Delaware State plated two runs off of Cent. Conn. St. pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of E. Bouldin, which brought the score to 9-7 in favor of the Hornets. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Cent. Conn. St. scored 10 times over the remaining three innings to grab the 17-9 win. CCSU was led offensively by J. Rios, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. W. Cameron led the Blue Devils pitching staff, throwing 4.1 innings of two-run ball.
