GAME 1 | Delaware State 5, Cent. Conn. St. 4
NEW BRITAIN, CT --The Delaware State Hornets broke through after a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning to knock off the Cent. Conn. St. Blue Devils 5-4 Friday.
Kobe Head got the win out of the bullpen for Delaware State (21-24, 19-12). The right-hander went two innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out two. Michael Lane also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out one.
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning.
The Blue Devils then tied the ballgame at three before the Hornets came back to reclaim their advantage in the sixth inning. Wilfredo Mendez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which brought the Hornets lead to 4-3.
CCSUÂ fought back to even the ballgame at four before Delaware State reclaimed a 5-4 advantage in the eighth inning. The score remained 5-4 for the rest of the game, as Delaware State held on for the win. CCSUÂ was led offensively by B. Short, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI. D. Munn led the Blue Devils pitching staff, throwing five innings of two-run ball.
GAME 2 | Delaware State 15, Cent. Conn. St. 13
NEW BRITAIN, CT --E. Harris collected four hits to help propel the Delaware State Hornets over the Cent. Conn. St. Blue Devils 15-13 on Friday.
Brandon Hatch (8-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Delaware State (22-24, 20-12). The right-hander went two innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on four hits. Evan Bouldin also made an impact on the mound for the Hornets, starting the ballgame and throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
In addition to his four hits, Harris had a double, a home run and three RBI to lead the Hornets. Bouldin compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI. K. Yaoita also helped out for Delaware State, putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and four RBI.
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Delaware State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Bouldin.
The Blue Devils failed to push any runs across before the Hornets offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. which brought the score to 9-0 in favor of the Hornets.
Cent. Conn. St. narrowed Delaware State's lead to 9-4 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 10-4 in the fourth inning.
Delaware State held the Blue Devils scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. A grand slam from Yaoita off P. Reilly cashed in four runs in the frame for the Hornets, bringing the Delaware State advantage to 14-4.
The Hornets held Cent. Conn. St. off the scoreboard before expanding their lead to 15-4 the following inning. Delaware State picked up a run on Harris' one-out solo home run off of T. Wainwrigh. Cent. Conn. St. put nine runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hornets still held on for the 15-13 win. CCSUÂ was led offensively by E. Good, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. S. Hutchinso led the Blue Devils pitching staff, throwing two scoreless innings.

The Hornets will return Wednesday, May 22 when they travel to the NEC Championship. The Hornets will face number four seed Wagner at 3 p.m. at Heritage Financial Park in Wappingers Falls, New York.
