BROOKVILLE, N.Y. -- Junior Jared Hughes, senior PJ Moritz and senior Jack Vandoran combined to throw a shutout on Sunday as the LIU Sharks blanked the Delaware State Hornets 4-0.
Freshman Gonzalez (1-5) got the ball to start for Delaware State (14-21, 13-11) and took the loss. Freshman Lane was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing one hit.
At the plate, the Hornets were paced by sophomore Evan Bouldin, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double. Sophomore Joey Current furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4.
Delaware State managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Hornets last got a runner on third in the eighth, when senior Colon made it 90 feet away from scoring with one out. LIU was led offensively by junior Jack Power, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Hughes led the Sharks pitching staff, throwing six scoreless innings.
