Men's Basketball Has Three Named to All-Conference, Deywilk Tavarez Name Rookie of The Year

DOVER — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its highly anticipated all-conference selections on Tuesday evening, and Delaware State University's men's basketball team dominated. Three of their standout players have been recognized for their outstanding performances throughout the season. 

State's Martaz Robinson was selected to First Team All-MEAC. Jevin Muniz was selected to Second Team All-MEAC. 

Deywilk Tavarez went triple platinum. Tavarez was selected to Third Team All-MEAC, All-MEAC Rookie Team, and Named Rookie of The Year.

Recently joining the 1000 points club, Robinson proved to be a consistent scorer all season, reaching double digits in 25 out of the 30 games played. 

Robinson received Player of the Week consecutive times throughout the season. Robinson leads the Hornets, second in the MEAC in scoring with an average of 16.4 points per game. 

Jevin

Jevin Muniz is no stranger to scoring either, coming in behind Robinson averaging 15 points per game. Muniz is fourth in the MEAC. 

Muniz is also second in assists with 94 this season. 

Jevin had his highest-scoring game against Morgan State with 31.

Tavsrez earned every bit of Rookie of the Year, collecting five Rookie of the Week's in the regular season. 

Tavarez secures the Hornets their first MEAC Rookie of the Year honoree since the 2015-16 season when Devin Morgan claimed the honor. The freshman from Pennsauken, NJ, recorded 19 double-digit performances with six 20-point games and one 30-point outing. Tavarez posted a career-high 31 points and 10 assists in the Hornets win over the Spartans of Norfolk State (Mar. 2). He sits fourth overall in the MEAC in points per game with an average of 17.0, fourth in field goal percentage (43.2), seventh in free throw percentage (81.8), fifth in three-pointers per game (2.1), third in assists per game (3.5) and third in steals per game (1.8).

Tavarez leads the Hornets in assists with 104 this season, with more to go. He is third to Robinson and Muniz, averaging 13.1 points per game. 

The 2024 MEAC Basketball Tournament begins Wednesday, March 13, and runs through Saturday, March 16, at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.

The Hornets will face South Carolina State University Thursday, March 14 at 8 p.m.
