ANNAPOLIS, Md. --Senior Chris Amparo racked up five RBIs, but the Delaware State Hornets fell to the Navy Midshipmen 17-7 on Tuesday.
Sophomore Nathan Vidmar (0-1) got the ball to start for Delaware State (1-4) and took the loss. Freshman Kobe Head was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
Amparo went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and a walk in addition to his five RBIs for the Hornets. Senior Jancarlos Colon compiled a standout effort as well, going 3-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. Senior Krew Bouldin also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 11-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Delaware State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Amparo.
The Midshipmen expanded their lead to 13-4 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the eighth. Delaware State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-RBI double from Amparo, which brought the score to 13-7 in favor of the Midshipmen. The ballgame ended with that eighth inning rally falling short. Hornets pitchers combined to strike out 12 Navy hitters. Amparo led the Hornets at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBI. Navy was led offensively by senior Eduardo Diaz, who went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.
