NORFOLK, VA --Gerren Tomlin and Valeria Otero both notched double-doubles, but the Delaware State volleyball team lost to the Norfolk State Spartanettes 3-2 (24-26, 25-12, 25-22, 24-26, 12-15) Sunday on the road at James D Gill Health & Physical Education Building.

The loss dropped Delaware State's record to 10-13 overall and 6-4 in MEAC play.

The Hornets were led by double-doubles from both Otero, who had 10 kills and 17 digs, and Tomlin, who had 25 kills and 11 digs. Hannah Sanders also added 11 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Morgan Allen chipped in for with 15 digs to go with six blocks from Sanders.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hornets battled back from a seven-point 23-16 deficit, but Norfolk State hung on to win the first set 26-24.

SET 2 | Delaware State responded to pick up a 25-12 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece. The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Delaware State opened up as much as a 14 point lead at 24-10 before closing out the set, totaling 16 kills along the way. The Hornets hit .414 over the course of the set. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Delaware State grabbed a 2-1 match lead after defeating the Spartanettes in set three. The Hornets the set set three 25-22. Delaware State took the lead for good at 16-15 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Hornets took over in the second half of the stanza. The Hornets racked up 17 kills over the course of the set. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Norfolk State attacks in the stanza.

SET 4 | Delaware State couldn't keep the win streak alive, as the Spartanettes forced a fifth set with a 26-24 fourth-set win. The Hornets came up short in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured nine lead changes and was tied 18 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than two points along the way.

SET 5 | Delaware State took a lead of two sets to one before dropping the final two sets, including a 15-12 loss in the fifth set. The Hornets had a lead early in the set at 7-7 before Norfolk State took over.
