EMMITSBURG, MD --The Delaware State men's basketball team fell short in a 76-66 loss to the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers on the road Saturday.
The Hornets (2-4) had four players score in double figures, led by Kaseem Watson, who had 16 points and six rebounds. Martaz Robinson tacked on 16 points and two steals and Robert Smith helped out with 14 points and six rebounds.
Muneer Newton pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Delaware State offense which grabbed 15 boards and turned them into 18 second chance points.
The Delaware State defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 13 Mount St. Mary's turnovers while committing eight. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Robinson's two steals led the way individually for the Hornets.
How It Happened
After falling behind 22-14, Delaware State went on an 8-0 run with 8:54 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Watson, to tie the game at 22. Mount St. Mary's then pulled ahead, sending the Hornets into halftime down 38-31.
Delaware State could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 76-66. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 35 points in the lane.
