DOVER, DE --The Delaware State women's basketball team shot 51.9 percent from beyond the arc on the way to an 80-44 victory against the at home Saturday.
The Hornets (2-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Mahogany Cottingham, who had 32 points. Ericka Huggins tacked on a double-double off the bench with 14 points and 15 rebounds and Kyra Lawrence chipped in as well with 12 points and two blocks.
The Delaware State offense was very productive from downtown, knocking down 14 threes on 27 attempts. Cottingham was the most prolific shooter for the Hornets, draining eight treys in the contest.
Delaware State did a great job disrupting shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Huggins' three rejections led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened
Delaware State started out the scoring by going on a 9-0 run, culminating in a three from Cottingham, to take an early lead with 7:40 left in the first quarter. The Hornets then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 12-4 advantage. Delaware State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 12 points.
Delaware State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 14-0 run starting at the 8:40 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Cottingham, to increase its lead to 28-8. The Hornets proceeded to tack on 12 points to that lead and enjoyed a 43-11 advantage heading into halftime. Delaware State forced six turnovers in the period and turned them into 12 points.
Delaware State continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Cottingham, to expand its lead further to 55-20 with 34 seconds to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Hornets still entered the fourth quarter with a 55-23 edge. Delaware State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled three of the team's 12 third-quarter points.
Delaware State kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Cottingham's three, to grow the lead to 77-37 with 2:42 to go in the contest. The narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still cruised the rest of the way for the 80-44 win. Delaware State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 25 points.
