DOVER, DE --The Delaware State volleyball team totaled 50 kills on the way to a three-set win (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) against the Norfolk State Spartanettes Sunday at home at Memorial Hall.
The victory improved the Hornets' record to 6-10 overall and 2-1 in MEAC action.
The Hornets were led by a double-double from Gerren Tomlin, who registered 18 kills and 12 digs on the day. Martyna Kmuk also added 12 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Paige Ahakuelo chipped in for with nine digs to go with three blocks from Myracle Davis.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets grabbed the first set 25-19 helped by a solid showing on the attacking side. Delaware State registered a .317 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set victory. The Hornets opened up a 23-14 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
SET 2 | Delaware State built on a set-one win by securing a 25-18 victory in set two. The Hornets led from the opening point on in the set to secure the victory. Delaware State opened up as much as an 11 point lead at 20-9 before finishing off the set, collecting 17 kills in the process. The Hornets racked up 17 kills over the course of the set. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Norfolk State attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Delaware State closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing the third set. The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-20 victory. Delaware State opened up as much as a 10 point lead at 16-6 before closing out the set, collecting 17 kills in the process.
