Hornets Secure 3-0 Sweep against UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, MD --The Delaware State volleyball team secured a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-18, 25-23) over the Maryland-Eastern Shore Lady Hawks Friday on the road at Hytche Center.

The win moved the Hornets' record to 9-11 overall and 5-2 in MEAC action.

The Hornets were led by a double-double from Gerren Tomlin, who registered 13 kills and 10 digs on the day. Alondra Maldonado also added eight kills to help the offense.Tomlin also pitched in with nine in the contest. On the defensive end, Emma Crakow chipped in for with eight digs to go with two blocks from Hannah Sanders.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hornets took control of the set-one lead at 5-4 and never trailed to win 25-14. Delaware State led by 13 points at 19-6 before finishing off the set, totaling 15 kills in the process. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with five aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Delaware State continued to roll after a set-one win by securing a 25-18 victory in set number two. The Hornets grabbed control of the set lead early on at 4-3 and never trailed. Delaware State led by as many as 10 points at 14-4 before closing out the set. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from eight aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Delaware State took set three to sweep the match 3-0. The Hornets led from the first point on in the set to earn a 25-23 victory. Delaware State opened up as much as a five point lead at 13-8 before finishing off the set.
