BETHLEHEM, PA --The Delaware State volleyball team lost to the Virginia Tech Hokies in straight sets (23-25, 22-25, 21-25) Friday at Grace Hall.
The non-conference loss dropped Delaware State to 3-5 on the season.
The Hornets offense was paced by Ella Sanders, who finished with 11 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .391, and by Valeria Otero, who had 11. got 12 digs from Maria Caratini along with five blocks from Kelsie Dawson to lead them defensively.
Valeria Otero had a match-high two aces in the loss. Ella Sanders had a team-high of 11 kills in the afternoon match-up. Delaware State got a team-high 12 digs from Maria Caratini. Delaware State attackers were helped by a team-high of 22 assists from Naz Tuncay.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets lost set one 25-23 in spite of a strong performance on the attacking side. Delaware State put together a .379 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set loss.
SET 2 | Delaware State then dropped set two 25-22 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Virginia Tech grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up three times before the Hokies took over the lead.
SET 3 | Delaware State couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Hornets lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set 25-21.
