EAST LANSING, M.I. --- Delaware State wrapped up the Kathy DeBoer Invitational falling to tournament host Michigan State University, (25-13, 25-16, 25-21) in Breslin Events Center.
Despite Michigan State taking the first two sets by breeze, the Hornets put up a strong fight in the third set but fell short.
Alondra Maldonado paced the offense with five kills to go with her four block assists for a total of seven points. Maldonado was named to the Kathy DeBoer Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Gerren Tomlin tallied six kills with one block assist for a total of 7.5 points. Naz Tuncay (12) and Kaulana Kalulu-Sugai (10) combined for 22 of the team's 23 total assists. Valeria Otero (11) collected over 10 or more digs for the second straight game.
Delaware State will return to action on Friday, September 8 when they face Virginia Tech and Lehigh University in the Lehigh Steel Classic. The first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. and 7 p.m
