RICHMOND, Virginia -- Delaware State fell 38-6 to Richmond on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Spiders improved to 1-2 on the season while the Hornets dropped to 0-3.

Marqui Adams led all Hornets rushers with 57 yards in the contest, picking up 5.7 yards per carry. Marquis Gillis also added 51 yards on the ground.

Wade Inge reeled in three catches for 64 yards.

Romell Harris-Freeman added three tackles and Gillis had in the loss.

The Delaware State offense did a good job extending drives, converting on 45.5 percent of third-down attempts.

Delaware State's defense held up fairly well against the run, limiting Richmond to 156 yards on the ground.

How It Happened

After falling behind 3-0, Delaware State responded with a field goal with 13:02 left in the second quarter to tie it up at 3-3.Richmond then scored to take a 24-3 lead before the Hornets put a field goal on the board to narrow the gap and make it a 24-6 game. Delaware State didn't score again in the game and Richmond added 14 more points to finish off the scoring.

Richmond outgained Delaware State 398-249 in the contest. Delaware State had their highest scoring quarter in the third period, when they put up three points. Delaware State converted 5 of 11 third downs while Richmond was successful on 4 of 8. Kyle Wickersham led the Spiders passing attack, completing 20 of his 25 attempts for 242 yards and two touchdowns. Jerry Garcia Jr. was Richmond's leading receiver with 81 yards and one touchdown.
