WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Delaware State men's and women's track & field teams took part in the Bison Classic co-hosted by Howard University and Gallaudet University on Saturday.

After a dominant showing just one weekend ago at the Towson Invitational, both men's and women's teams capitalized on that momentum with another successful performance at the Bison Classic earlier today.

Both men's and women's teams finished second place overall with the men's team recording 148 points while the women tallied 128.5 for a combined team score of 276.5 total points worthy of a combined team finish of second place. Delaware State was just one of two schools to record a combined team score in the triple digits finishing only behind conference competitor Howard who recorded a combined team score of 386 points while both men's and women's teams took first place.

Individually the Hornets collected seven individual event wins this afternoon.
Tayshaun Chisholm,
Peter Kamanu and
Christopher Johnson all collected their second-straight individual titles. Chisholm won the 110-Meter Hurdles after clocking a final time of 13.98 seconds while Kamanu won the Men's Pole Vault after topping out at a height of 4.30 meters. Johnson won the Men's Shot Put again with a final distance of 15.78 meters.

Elijah Brown took the Men's 800-Meters with a time of 1:58.83 while
Devin Smith ran a 4:05.93 to clinch the top spot in the Men's 1500 Meters.
Morey Campbell recorded a height of 1.93 meters in the Men's High Jump to put himself atop the leader board in said event.

Annalise Bond continued on her tear on the women's side of the pole vault event as she won her specialty event after reaching a height of 3.44 meters.
The women's short distance runners cleaned house in the 100-Meter Dash and 200-Meter Dash events. In the 100-Meter Dash,
Aaliyah Robinson took third after running 12.62 seconds with
Cierra Young taking fourth with a time of 12.99 seconds. In the 200-Meter Dash,
Chidubem Okwudibonye clinched the second spot with a time of 25.15 seconds,
Lakendra Harpe took third with a time of 25.64 seconds.
Catherine Glenn came in fourth place after she clocked a time of 25.95 seconds while
Cierra Young ran a time of 25.98 seconds to finish fifth. Robinson added another top-finish to her day after coming in sixth with a time of 26.66 seconds.
Febe Evans claimed seventh with after she ran a time of 27.13 seconds while
Makiya Gayles rounded out the top-eight in this event at eighth with a time of 27.25 seconds.

Okwudibonye corralled another second-place finish on the afternoon after turning in a time of 58.25 seconds in the Women's 400 Meters.
Lakendra Harpe and
Leah Powell came in third and fourth in this event with times of 1:00.66 and 1:03.13 respectively.

The men's short distance runners also came through starting with the Men's 100-Meter Dash where
Andre Carr, Jr. took second after running a time of 10.71 seoncds with
Jalen Booth-Mitchell claiming seventh place after he turned in a final time of 10.91 seconds. In the 200-Meter Dash,
Jaden Shelton clocked 21.63 seconds to clinch the second spot while
Alonzo Sims, Jr. came in fifth with a time of 22.24 seconds and
Malachi Brinkley finished seventh after running 22.43 seconds. As for the 400-Meter Dash, Sims Jr. came in second with a time of 49.49 seconds with Brinkley taking seventh with a time of 50.98 seconds. Â

In the women's mid-distance and distance running events, the Hornets claimed three top-five finishes. Jadyn Comer and
Jazelle Griffin went two and three in the 1500-Meters with times of 5:27.53 and 5:36.23 respectively while
Ashley Lagat took third in the 5000-Meters with a time of 19:50.87.

The men's mid-distance runners added two top-eight finishes in the Men's 1500 Meters courtesy of an Ezekial Dawkins fifth-place finish and
Tyler Blandin sixth-place finish with times of 4:30.07 and 4:35.70 respectively.

In the relays, the team of Chisholm, Carr, Jr. Booth-Mitchell and Blandin finished in fourth place after running a time of 3:28.62.

Catherine Glenn added her second top-five finish of the meet in the Women's 110-Meter Hurdles after her time of 14.07 seconds put her in second place.
Ansolei Taliaferro recorded a second-place finish of her own in the 400-Meter Hurdles after she ran 1:07.38. On the men's side of this event,
Jaden Shelton took fourth place in the 110-Meter Hurdles with a time of 14.83 seconds.

The women's jumpers collected four top tallies for their team.
Trinity Kinard reached a height of 1.52 meters for a second-place finish in the high jump while
Abigail Jefferies and
Ashley Richardson finished sixth and eighth with heights of 1.32 meters and 1.27 meters respectively.
Mya Bradley recorded a mark of 11.26 meters in the triple jump which was good enough to sit her in third place.

Hornet male jumpers chipped in with two top-five performances as
Elijah McLaren recorded a mark of 14.13 meters in the triple jump with
Jalen Jasmin launching himself 5.98 meters in the long jump which sat him in fifth place in this event.

Amber Pelle and
Orianna Moore dominated the throwing events as they contributed five of the seven top marks. Pelle finished third in the Discus (37.01 meters) and fourth in the Hammer Throw (46.41 meters) while Moore took fourth in the Discus (36.39 meters) as well as the Shot Put (10.77 meters) and seventh in the Hammer Throw (38.12 meters). Jefferies and Richardson came in sixth and eighth in the Shot Put with respective distances of 10.32 meters and 9.72 meters.

The men's throwers held their own throughout the afternoon led by
Tyrell Martin who tallied two top-eight finishes highlighted by his second-place finish in the Shot Put with a final distance of 15.22 meters. Martin also finished sixth in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 39.84 meters.
Emperor Campbell and
Christopher Johnson contributed to the top-marks in the Hammer Throw as they claimed third and seventh place with respective distances of 43.13 meters and 37.40 meters.

Delaware State men's and women's track & field teams return to action next Saturday for the annual Sting Invite hosted within the confines of Delaware State University's Alumni Stadium.
