UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. --- The Delaware State baseball team completed its three-game series at Penn State with a 15-3 loss on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Delaware State put up all three of its runs in the sixth inning to avoid being blanked on the scoreboard. The frame started with back-to-back base runners after
Nick Gnardellis was hit by a pitch and then moved to second base by way of an
Evan Bouldin single with no outs as
Trey Paige came to the plate.
Â
Paige singled through the right side and brought Gnardellis home from second base to get the Hornets on the board. After
Krew Bouldin drew a walk to load the bases,
Chris Amparo worked a five-pitch bases-loaded walk in his at-bat to score
Evan Bouldin for the second run of the frame.
Â
Delaware State's third and final run came on a Penn State wild pitch that allowed Paige to come home from third base.
Â
Penn State's offensive outburst saw five Nittany Lions record a multi-hit game led by Tayven Kelley who was a perfect 3-for-3 with all three of his hits going for extra bases. Kelley also drove in a game-high three RBIs to ensure his team completed the sweep.
Â
Delaware State will return to Northeast Conference (NEC) competition when a familiar foe Norfolk State University makes the trip up to Dover for the three-game series. First pitch of the opener is currently scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. at Bob Reed Field.
