Dover, Del. (Apr. 7, 2023) --- Fourteen players made the scoresheet to highlight Coastal Carolina's 18-3 ASUN women's lacrosse victory over Delaware State today. Kayla Downey led the Chanticleers with three goals, while teammates Avery McIlwaine and Maddie Bates tallied two each.  Rosella Nardi, Gwenna Gentle and Zahra Smith accounted for Delaware State's scoring. Nardi and Smith scored for the second straight game.
Coastal took early control of the game, scoring the first five goals, two by Downey. The Hornets got on the board when Gentle scored at the 3:45 mark of the opening period.
The Chanticleers answered with another five-goal run, and opened up a 10-1 lead on a score by Sofia D'Avella with 5:55 to in the second period.
Delaware State scored first in the second half on Smith's goal to cut Coastal's lead to 10-2. The Chants led 12-2 when Nardi scored the Hornets' final goal at the 5:03 mark of the third period.
The Hornets return to action on Apr. 16 at home against Stetson. The start time has been moved up to 11:00 a.m. at Drass Field on the DSU Downtown campus.
