Charlotte, N.C. (Apr. 6, 2023) --- The Delaware State women's lacrosse team fell to Atlantic Sun Conference newcomer Queens University of Charlotte 12-2 today. After a 2-0 start this season, the Hornets have dropped their last nine games to fall to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in the ASUN. The Royals won their third in a row to improve to 7-4 and 2-0.
Alexis Flores led all players with four goals, while teammate Shannon Donovan added three for Queens.
Rosella Nardi and
Zahra Smith were the goal scorers for Delaware State.
Donovan and Flores each scored a goal in the first four minutes to give the Royals a 2-0 lead. The Hornets got in the board at the 10:21 mark of the opening period on Nardi's score to cut the Royals' lead in half.
Queens answered with three straight goals, two by Donovan, increase its lead to 5-1 at the break.
Smith scored the first goal of the second half for the Hornets to trim the Royals' lead to 5-2.
Queen tallied the last seven goals, three by Flores, to close out the scoring.
Delaware State returns to action tomorrow with a Good Friday ASUN contest at Coastal Carolina. Start time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in Conway, S.C.
The next home game for the Hornets is Apr. 16 against Stetson. The start time has been moved up to 11:00 a.m. at Drass Field on the DSU Downtown campus. Â Â Â Â Â
