HORNETS OUTPLAYED BY COLONIALS IN WOMEN’S LACROSSE CONTEST

Washington, D.C. (Mar. 29, 2023) --- George Washington led by seven goals after the first period and never looked back in a 19-8 women's lacrosse victory over Delaware State today. Ten players scored at least one goal for the Colonials. Kerry McKeever led the way with six scores for GW. Gwenna Gentle was the top scorer for the Hornets with four goals.
McKeever scored two of the first three goals in the game. Her second gave the Colonials a 3-0 lead at the 11:51 mark of the first period. Delaware State got on the board less than a minute later on a goal by Nina Dillard. McKeever scored three more first period goals to help propel George Washington an 8-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.
Gentle scored the first two goals of the second period to cut GW's lead to 8-3, but the Colonials answered with a five-goal run to close out the period, extending their advantage to 13-3 at the break.
The Hornets were only outscored 6-5 in the second half. Gentle scored two second half goals, while London Downing, Ebony Reddick, and Mayerlin Santos tallied one each for Delaware State in the final 30 minutes.
The Hornets return to action on April 6 at Queens University of Charlotte (N.C.) on Apr. 6. Delaware State returns home on Apr. 16 (12:00 p.m.) to face Stetson in an ASUN contest.
