FARMVILLE, Va. --- Delaware State sophomore outfielder
Alec Rodriguez recorded the first grand slam of his Hornet career in the opener of the three-game weekend series at Longwood on Friday.
Â
Rodriguez's round-tripper tied the game up at four in the top half of the seventh inning.
Â
A 4-4 tie would be as close to a lead as Delaware State would see in this game with Longwood pulling away in the bottom half of the seventh and eighth innings to secure its first win of the 2023 season.
Â
The Hornets offensive efforts were led by
Trey Paige who notched a pair of singles while
Evan Bouldin and
Robert Trujillo joined Rodriguez in collecting a hit.
Â
The Lancers were led to their first win of the 2023 campaign by the bat of redshirt-senior shortstop Gregory Ryan. Ryan recorded a career-best day at the plate by way of a perfect 4-for-4 powered by two doubles and one home run.
Â
These two teams will resume the series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch at Buddy Bolding Stadium is currently scheduled for 2 p.m.
