Hornets secure season sweep over Bulldogs

DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State women's basketball team captured a 50-49 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win over South Carolina State at Memorial Hall on Monday.

The Hornets were led offensively by the guard duo of the senior Alexis Moragne and freshman Savannah Brooks.

Moragne led all scorers with 18 points powered by a game-best 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. She drained a team-high three three-pointers, grabbed five rebounds, passed out three helpers and came away with a steal.

Brooks finished her night with 13 points behind two triples and five-of-six shooting from the free throw line. Brooks came down with six rebounds, handed out three assists and two blocks in the win

Underneath the basket, Delaware State was led by the two-headed rebounding monster of Jessica Martino and Tyshonne Tollie. Martino hauled in a game-high 14 boards, nine of which came on the defensive end and the other five gave the Hornets a second chance on offense. Tollie grabbed 10 rebounds herself splitting them evenly between offensive and defensive at five on each side of the court.

Tonight's win marks the first time the Hornets have claimed a home MEAC victory on home soil since defeating Coppin State 68-55 back on February 6, 2021.

Delaware State will hit the road this Saturday for a MEAC matchup with Morgan State. Tipoff from the Hill Field House is currently set for 2 p.m.
