Robinson scores 22 points in Delaware State's 62-61 loss to Longwood

DOVER, DE --Martaz Robinson scored 22 points, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell to the Longwood Lancers 62-61 at home Saturday.

The Hornets (6-7) had two players score in double figures, led by Robinson, who had 22 points, seven assists and two steals. Deywilk Tavarez tacked on 11 points and four steals and Alston Andrews added six points, six rebounds and two steals.

Delaware State forced 25 Longwood turnovers while committing 17 themselves in Saturday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 24 points on the other end of the floor. Tavarez's four steals led the way for Delaware State.

How It Happened

After falling behind 28-20, Delaware State went on a 6-0 run with 4:06 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 28-26. Longwood answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 34-30 entering halftime.

Longwood kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 61-50 advantage before Delaware State went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Robinson's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 61-59 with 1:30 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept their comeback going, but Longwood managed to hold on for the 62-61 win. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 31 points in the lane. The Delaware State defense forced 25 turnovers.

The Hornets return to action Monday, December 18 when they travel to Wake Forest University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m
