Delaware State Gets 47 Bench Points in 105-58 Victory Over Gwynedd Mercy

DOVER, DE --The Delaware State men's basketball team got a 47-point performance from the bench on the way to a 105-58 victory against the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins at home Tuesday.

The Hornets (5-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Martaz Robinson, who had 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Wesley Oba added 13 points off the bench and Jevin Muniz chipped in as well with 13 points and two steals.

The Delaware State offense made hay from three-point land, knocking down eight threes on 18 attempts. Robinson hit three treys for the Hornets in the contest.

Delaware State's defense held Gwynedd Mercy to only 37.7 percent shooting from the field. The Griffins did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with one offensive rebounds and managed zero second chance points while Delaware State cleared 35 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

After falling behind 15-6, Delaware State went on a 12-0 run with 14:51 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Muniz, to take an 18-15 lead. The Hornets then added 18 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 57-36 advantage. Delaware State capitalized on nine Gwynedd Mercy turnovers in the period, turning them into 17 points on the other end of the floor.

Following intermission, Delaware State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 78-45 before going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 86-45 with 8:56 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 105-58 win. Delaware State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 26 of its 48 total points. The Hornets shot well from three point range, knocking down eight of 18 long range attempts. The Hornets held the Griffins to only 37.7 percent shooting from the field. Delaware State recorded 19 total assists in the game. Delaware State had a 46-22 edge on the boards in the win. The Delaware State defense forced 17 turnovers. Delaware State turned the ball over nine times while dishing out 19 assists. Delaware State cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 11 offensive boards in the game.

The Hornets return to action Thursday, December 7 when they host Virginia University of Lynchburg . Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m
