Delaware State Gets Fourth Straight Win in 106-73 win against Virginia University of Lynchburg

DOVER, DE --The Delaware State men's basketball team got a 38-point performance from the bench on the way to a 106-73 win over the at home Thursday.

The Hornets (6-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Deywilk Tavarez, who had 20 points, seven assists and four steals. Jevin Muniz tacked on 19 points and nine assists and Martaz Robinson helped out with 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.

The Delaware State defense held shooters to just 40 percent from the field. The Hornets also kept Jahmir Brown to 4-of-14 shooting in the game. The did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only five offensive rebounds and scored five second chance points while Delaware State pulled down 33 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 23-18 advantage, Delaware State went on a 6-0 run with 9:37 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Robinson, to increase its lead to 29-18. The Hornets then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 44-35 advantage. Delaware State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 30 of its 44 points close to the basket.

Delaware State kept its lead intact before going on a 14-0 run, finished off by Robinson's layup, to grow the lead to 58-40 with 14:43 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 106-73 win. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 40 of its 62 points in the lane.

The Hornets shot well from three point range, knocking down eight of 18 long range attempts. The Hornets held the Dragons to only 40 percent shooting from the field. Delaware State recorded 26 total assists in the game. The Delaware State bench came alive by scoring 38 points to its scoring output. Delaware State had a 45-19 edge on the boards in the win.

The Hornets return to action Saturday, December 9 when they host Longwood University. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m
