Delaware State falls 79-45 to Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, PA --The Delaware State men's basketball team got a 19-point showing from the bench, but fell 79-45 to the Penn State Lions on the road Monday.

Alston Andrews led the Hornets (0-1) with four points and eight rebounds. Martaz Robinson also tacked on nine points and three steals and Jevin Muniz helped out with two points and two steals.

Led by Raymond Somerville's two offensive rebounds, Delaware State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 17 boards that resulted in 18 second chance points.

The Delaware State defense caused its share of mistakes in Monday's game, forcing 21 Penn State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into eight points on the offensive end of the floor. Robinson's three steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened

Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 39-18 heading into halftime.

Delaware State could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 79-45. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 16 of its 27 points in the lane. The Delaware State bench came alive by scoring 19 points to its scoring output. The Delaware State defense forced 21 turnovers. Delaware State cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 17 offensive boards in the game. Martaz Robinson and Corey Perkins led the Hornets with nine points apiece. Delaware State got a team-high eight rebounds from Alston Andrews.

The Hornets return to action Friday, November 10 when they travel to Austin, Texas to take on University of Texas. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT.
