Alondra Maldonado Collects Her 1000th Kill in 3-0 sweep against South Carolina State

ORANGEBURG, SC --The Delaware State volleyball team needed only three sets (25-12, 25-20, 25-21) to beat the South Carolina StateĀ Bulldogs Friday on the road at Historic Dukes Gym.

The conference victory improved Delaware State's record to 14-12 overall and 7-5 in MEAC play.

Alondra Maldonado finished with 13 kills on the day and collected her 1000th career kill to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .550. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Valeria Otero had 12 and Gerren Tomlin had 11. Gerren Tomlin had a team-high two aces in the win. Delaware State served up five aces on the way to a first-set victory. Delaware State attackers were helped by a team-high 14 assists from Paige Meins.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hornets grabbed control on the first point and never looked back to win the first set 25-12. Delaware State opened up its biggest lead, 13 points, to finish off the set. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with five aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Delaware State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-20 victory in set number two. The Hornets took control of the set lead early on at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way. Delaware State led by as many as nine points at 18-9 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Delaware State then ended the match with a victory in set number three. The Hornets took control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-21. Delaware State led by 10 points at 20-10 before closing out the stanza.

Delaware State will return to action on Sunday, November 5Ā when they travel to NorthĀ Carolina CentralĀ University. The first serves areĀ scheduled for 1Ā p.m.
