Robinson's Buzzer-Beater Forces OT, Delaware State falls 84-82 to Longwood

FARMVILLE, VA --Martaz Robinson hit a buzzer-beating shot with only one second left on the clock to tie the game at 60-60, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell in double overtime to the Longwood Lancers 84-82 on the first day of the Longwood MTE.

The Hornets (1-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Robinson, who had 24 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Jevin Muniz added 22 points and six rebounds and Deywilk Tavarez helped out with 19 points, five assists and two steals.

The Delaware State offense made hay from downtown, making nine threes on 20 attempts. Tavarez hit five treys for the Hornets in the contest.

How It Happened

After falling behind 19-10, Delaware State went on a 5-0 run with 9:04 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Muniz, to narrow its deficit to 19-15. The Hornets continued to close the gap, cutting the Longwood lead to 35-32 by the end of the first half.

Longwood kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 42-35 advantage before Delaware State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Tavarez's jumper, to even the score at 42 all with 15:31 to go in the contest. Neither team was able to finish the game in regulation and the contest headed to overtime tied at 60-60. Robinson's shot sent the contest to an extra period with just one second left.

Delaware State started overtime with a bang, going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Wesley Oba's layup, to seize a 65-60 lead with 3:53 to go in the period. Longwood then fought back to extend the game to another overtime before eventually prevailing in the second extra frame to win 84-82.  Delaware State rallied from a three-point 35-32 halftime deficit to force overtime before ultimately coming up short. Delaware State won the rebound battle, 43-34.

The Hornets return to action Saturday, November 25 when they face Bethune-Cookman on the second day of the Longwood MTE. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m
