NEWARK, NJ --Wesley Oba pulled down 12 rebounds and Alston Andrews added 10 more, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell to the NJIT Highlanders 81-72 on the road Monday.
The Hornets (1-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Martaz Robinson, who had 21 points and six rebounds. Jevin Muniz tacked on 18 points and three steals and Andrews chipped in as well with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Delaware State collected 45 rebounds in Monday's game compared to NJIT's 33, led by 12 boards from Oba. The Hornets also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 22 rebounds into seven second chance points.
The Delaware State defense caused its share of mistakes in Monday's game, forcing 14 NJIT turnovers while committing 13. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Muniz's three steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 46-30 heading into halftime.
Delaware State narrowed its deficit to 77-64 before going on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 77-71 with 33 seconds to go in the contest. NJIT responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 81-72. Delaware State capitalized on 10 NJIT turnovers in the period, collecting 13 points off those turnovers. Alston Andrews notched a double-double for the Hornets with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Delaware State lost despite a 45-33 rebounding advantage. The Delaware State defense forced 14 turnovers. Delaware State cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 22 offensive boards in the game.
The Hornets return to action Friday, November 24 when they travel to Farmville, VA for the Longwood MTE. The Hornets will face host institution Longwood University first. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m
