Hornets Secure a 2-0 Weekend Sweep Against the Carolina's

DOVER, DE --The Delaware State volleyball team needed just three sets (25-20, 25-19, 25-21) to take down the North Carolina Central Eagles Sunday at home at Memorial Hall.

The conference victory improved Delaware State's record to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in MEAC action.

Kim Czepukaitis finished with seven kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .75. Ella Sanders got nine digs to lead them defensively. Ella Sanders had a team-high three aces in the win. Delaware State never trailed on the way to winning the second set 25-19. Delaware State attackers were helped by a team-high 15 assists from Naz Tuncay.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hornets earned a set-one victory 25-20 helped by a strong showing on the attacking side. Delaware State put together a .444 attack percentage with nine kills in the set victory. The Hornets ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Delaware State won set two 25-19 to quickly grab a 2-0 lead. The Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Delaware State opened up as much as a nine point lead at 20-11 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process. The Hornets hit .306 over the course of the set.

SET 3 | Delaware State closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning set three. The Hornets the set set three 25-21. Delaware State took the lead for good at 10-9 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Hornets took over the lead. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

Delaware State will return to action on Friday, October 13 when they host University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The first serves are scheduled for 6 p.m.
