Hornets Secure 3-0 Sweep Against South Carolina State

DOVER, DE --The Delaware State volleyball team got the job done in three sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-8) to take down the South Carolina State Bulldogs Friday at home at Memorial Hall.

The conference victory improved Delaware State's record to 10-9 overall and 3-2 in MEAC play.

Ella Sanders finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .556. Gerren Tomlin to lead them defensively with 8 digs. Daisey Ramos had a match-high three aces in the win. Delaware State attackers were helped by a match-high 19 assists from Kaulana Kalulu-Sugai.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hornets earned a set-one victory 25-13 propelled by a solid performance on the attacking side. Delaware State registered a .387 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set victory. The Hornets ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. Delaware State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four South Carolina State attacks in the stanza.

SET 2 | Delaware State carried momentum from a set-one win by securing a 25-20 victory in the second set. The Hornets grabbed the set propelled by a solid showing on the attacking side. Delaware State registered a .306 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set win. The Hornets rallied from down five at 13-8 to grab the win.

SET 3 | Delaware State took the third set to sweep the match 3-0. The Hornets took control of the set early when the score was 2-1 and never trailed to win 25-8. Delaware State ended on a strong note, opening up its biggest lead of the stanza, 17 points, to finish off the set. The Delaware State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Delaware State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five South Carolina State attacks in the stanza.

Delaware State will return to action on Sunday, October 8 when they host North Carolina Central University. The first serves are scheduled for 1 p.m.
