DOVER, DE -- Delaware State fell 35-7 to South Carolina State at home Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-4 on the year and 1-0 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Hornets fell to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in conference matchups.
Marquis Gillis led all Hornets rushers with 36 yards in the contest, picking up 5.1 yards per carry. Wade Inge also added five yards on the ground, averaging 5 yards per carry.
Jordan Hull hauled in four catches for 46 yards.
Michael Brock led the Delaware State defensive effort, collecting five tackles and one recovered fumble. Coleo Williams added five tackles and one interception and Eric Montes had in the loss.
The Hornets won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing two turnovers while avoiding any giveaways.
Defensively, Delaware State held up fairly well against the South Carolina State passing attack, holding the Bulldogs to 165 yards through the air.

Delaware State scored first and took a 7-0 lead on the game's opening drive. Delaware State didn't score again in the game and South Carolina State tacked on 35 more points to finish off the scoring. South Carolina State outgained Delaware State 522-152 in the contest. Delaware State won the turnover battle 2-0 after intercepting one pass and recovering one fumble. Delaware State tallied 7 points in the first quarter, accounting for 100% of their total score. Delaware State converted 4 of 13 third downs while South Carolina State was successful on 4 of 9. Charles Brown Jr led the Hornets with nine tackles. Delaware State went 1-for-1 on fourth down, converting on 100 percent of attempts. Delaware State gave up only 2.8 yards per punt return on five attempts. Jr. Fields led the Bulldogs passing attack, completing 14 of his 21 attempts for 165 yards with one interception. Tyler J. Smith led the South Carolina State rushing attack with 122 yards and one touchdown.
The Hornets will continue MEAC play when they host Howard University on Saturday, October 28. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET.
