DOVER, DE --Howard mounted a 14-play, 92-yard drive, culminating in a one-yard rushing touchdown from with 9:10 left in the ballgame, as Delaware State lost 17-10 in heartbreaking fashion to the Bison on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

The Bison improved to 4-4 on the year and 2-0 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Hornets fell to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in conference matchups.

Marquis Gillis paced the Hornets rushing attack by accumulating 74 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Rahkeem Smith also added 22 yards on the ground, averaging 7.3 yards per carry.

Aaron Angelos' most prolific target in the ballgame was Ej Core, who caught four passes for 75 yards.

Tyrell Martin paced the Delaware State defensive effort, totaling four tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack. Eric Montes added 10 tackles and 2.0 TFL and Mich Chris-Ike had in the loss.

The Delaware State offense did a good job keeping drives alive, converting on 50 percent of third-down attempts.

Delaware State's defense held up fairly well against the run, limiting Howard to 170 yards on the ground.

How It Happened

Howard jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but Delaware State responded to tie it up at 7-7 with 8:25 left in the second quarter.Howard scored to go ahead 10-7 before the Hornets responded with a score of their own to tie the game at 10-10. Delaware State didn't score again in the game and Howard tacked on seven more points to finish off the scoring. Howard outgained Delaware State 353-248 in the contest. Delaware State tallied 7 points in the second quarter, accounting for 70% of their total score. Delaware State converted 4 of 8 third downs while Howard was successful on 7 of 12. The Hornets had two players with more than eight tackles in the ballgame led by Montes, who had 10.
» Cardoza-Chicas punted five times for the Hornets with an average of 46.4 yards per punt while pinning the Bison inside their own 20 two times. Delaware State gave up just 1 yards per punt return on three attempts. Quint Williams led the Bison passing attack, completing 19 of his 25 attempts for 183 yards and one touchdown. Kase Hawthorne was Howard's leading receiver with 107 yards and one touchdown.

The Hornets will continue MEAC play when they travel to Morgan State University on Saturday, November 4. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
