NORFOLK, VA --The Delaware State volleyball team could not overcome a potent Spartanettes offense Sunday on the road losing to Norfolk State in three sets (23-25, 19-25, 24-26).
The loss dropped Delaware State's record to 9-9 overall and 2-2 in MEAC play.
Valeria Otero finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .25. got 15 digs from Otero to lead them defensively. Valeria Otero had a match-high three aces. Delaware State attackers were helped by a team-high 17 assists from Naz Tuncay.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets fell behind early, losing a close first set 25-23. Delaware State trailed by as many as six points as Norfolk State grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was knotted up three times before the Spartanettes took over the lead.
SET 2 | Delaware State then lost the second set 25-19 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Delaware State trailed by as many as seven points as Norfolk State grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was tied up five times before the Spartanettes took over the lead.
SET 3 | Delaware State couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Hornets came up short in a back-and-forth battle, losing 26-24 in a set that featured one lead change and was tied nine times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way.
Delaware State will return to action on Friday, October 6 when they host South Carolina State University. The first serves are scheduled for 6 p.m.
