Dover, Del. (Sep. 2, 202) --- The Delaware State Volleyball team has carried its strong home court play into the 2022 season. The Hornets extended their home win streak to 16 with a 3-0 victory over Hartford in the opening match of the Delaware State Invitational at Bayhealth Court in Memorial Hall today.
The scores were 25-8  , 25-15  and 25-13.
The Hornets used a balanced attack to post their second straight win and even their season record to 2-2.  Hartford in winless in four matches this season.
Delaware State was a perfect 13-0 at home during the fall 2021 season, posting 12 shutouts, while winning 39 of 40 sets in front of the home crowd.  
Alondra Maldonado led Delaware State with eight kills on 14 attacks (.357), while Karen Cordero and Sydney Lewis tallied six kills each.
Lewis also led all players with five blocks, giving her 14 in the last two matches. She had a career-high nine in the Hornets' 3-2 victory over Idaho in the Hornets' previous outing.
Delaware State's Jasmal Cruz recorded a match-high nine digs and also tied with teammate Malgorzata Andersohn for the high with three aces.
Prior to match, Andersohn was presented with a plaque from the NCAA for topping all Division I players in aces per set during the 2021-22 season.    
The Hornets will wrap up the tournament with matches against Quinnipiac and Hartford again on Saturday.
