DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State baseball team opened a four-game series in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) competition against Norfolk State with a 13-6 win on Thursday.

The Hornets strung 3 three-run frames together, including going back-to-back in the fourth and the fifth innings to power the home win. Delaware State scored a run in six of its eight offensive outings.

Norfolk State tallied six runs across the second, third and fourth innings of the afternoon but were held scoreless from the fifth inning through the remainder of the game.

Delaware State's outburst was highlighted by home runs from
Jordan King and
Trey Paige.

Paige's home run proved to be much needed insurance as the Hornets were up by one (7-6) in the bottom of the fifth inning. Â He wasted no time at the plate as he launched the first pitch he saw over the wall in right center bringing home
Mike Worthington and
Robert Trujillo and pushed the lead up to four, 10-6 through 5 complete innings.

King got in on the long ball action with a solo home run of his own one inning later. He extended the Hornets' lead to 11-6 at the end of the sixth. Delaware State added two more runs in the seventh on a Spartans passed ball and a
Brady Daniels ground out that scored Paige.

Krew Bouldin got Delaware State on the board early in the bottom of the first by way of a ground out that brought Paige home from third base.

Alec Rodriguez tied the game at two in the bottom of the second with an RBI-double to left field that scored King. Trujillo took the lead back for the Hornets with a single to second base that ended up causing an error and allowing Rodriguez to score for a 3-2 advantage in the second.
Miguel Rivera placed a single through the left side of the field allowed Rodriguez to cross home plate and double the Delaware State lead 4-2 through two frames.

Norfolk State saw a two-RBI home run in the third and back-to-back RBI-doubles in the fourth to give the Spartans a 6-4 advantage for what would be their final lead of the afternoon.
The Hornets completed the comeback in in their second three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth. Alonso's sacrifice fly, Daniels' RBI-double and a Spartan passed ball accounted for the runs and allowing Delaware State to reclaim the lead once and for all at Bob Reed Field. Â

Paige finished his day 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two of his three hits going for extra bases. Daniels also tallied a mutil-RBI day at the plate. Rivera joined Paige with a multi-hit performance as he a recorded a 2-for-4 outing.

On the mound,
Mike Carrington earned his first win of the season after throwing 3.2 innings in relief. Carrington sat down five Spartan batters while only surrendering three hits and two runs.
Hiram Davis and
Brandon Hatch took the bullpen baton the rest of the way, shutting out Norfolk State and preserving the win for Delaware State.

The Hornets and Spartans will continue the MEAC four-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow (Friday) at Bob Reed Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
