Hornets record second consecutive split with Hawks

SALISBURY, Md. --- The Delaware State baseball team recorded its second straight split in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) competition with the Hawks of University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday.

Delaware State fell in game one by a score of 11-2.

Mike Worthington broke the Hornets' scoreless seal in the top of the fifth with an RBI-single that scored Jordan King.

King would score again in the top of the seventh, this time by way of an RBI-double to center field from Brady Daniels. King led Delaware State in the matinee with a pair of hits.

King was joined in the hit column by Daniels, Worthington and Trey Paige.

The Hornets evened out the series at two games apiece with a 3-2 win in the nightcap.

Daniels scored the game's first run after being driven home on an RBI-double to gap in right center from King in the top of the second.

Worthington doubled the Hornet advantage one batter later as he brought King home on an RBI-single right back up the middle for a 2-0 lead through two complete innings.

Delaware State took advantage of a Maryland Eastern Shore error that scored Alan Alonso, giving the Hornets an insurance run and putting the game at 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning.

The Hawks got one back in the bottom of the sixth but Ethan Edelson slammed the door shut on a comeback and preserved the win for the Hornets and giving Edelson his first save of the season.

Also on the mound, Zachary Dale struck out seven batters only surrendered two runs and one hit to earn his first win of the 2022 campaign.

King recorded another game-best two hits in the win while driving in and scoring a run.

Alonso, Worthington, Robert Trujillo and Alec Rodriguez all recorded hits during second game.

Delaware State will take a break from MEAC action when it hosts Villanova on Tuesday as part of the Liberty Bell Classic. First pitch from Bob Reed Field located on DSU Downtown's campus is currently scheduled for 3 p.m.
