Hornets fall in close battle with Eagles

COLUMBIA, Md. --- The Delaware State baseball team fell 3-2 in its opening series of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) finale to Coppin State on Sunday.

The Eagles capitalized on a Hornet wild pitch to open up the scoring in the bottom of the first (1-0).

Alan Alonso drilled a double into the gap in left center that scored Mason Brewer and Mike Carrington. A 2-1 advantage in the top of the second inning would be the only lead Delaware State saw in the contest.

Coppin State tied the game in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice bunt and then took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.

Along with Alonso, Brewer and Carrington, Krew Bouldin and Jordan King also recorded a hit at the plate for the Hornets.

Delaware State returns to action this coming weekend for another four-game MEAC series, this time with University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The series opens up on Friday at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
