HORNETS RUN OUT OF GAS IN LOSS TO MORGAN STATE

Dover, Del. (Feb. 26, 2022) --- Delaware State cut a 22-point second half deficit to two with a little more than nine minutes left, but couldn't get over the hump in a 76-69 MEAC men's basketball loss to Morgan State in the Hornets' 2021-22 home finale in Memorial Hall today.
The loss overshadowed another scintillating performance by Delaware State senior guard Myles Carter , who led all players with a career-high 32 points in his final Memorial Hall appearance. Carter has scored 81 points in the last three games to raise his season  average to 16.7 points per game and career total to 1,040.
Delaware State trailed 33-20 at the half, and fell behind 51-29 after a three-pointer by Isaiah Burke with 13:47 left to play.
The Hornets responded by outscoring the Bears 23-3 over the next four-and-a-half minutes, and pulled to within 54-52 on a steal and lay up by Carter at the 9:13 mark of the second half.
Carter scored 13 points and Corey Perkins five, while the Hornets forced Morgan State into one-for-six shooting from the field and five turnovers during the rally.
Morgan State rebounded to score 16 of the next 23 points over the next five minutes, and opened up a 70-59 lead on two free throws by Trevor Moore with 3:59 left to play.
Delaware State could get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Senior Dominik Fragala came off the bench to tally 13 points and finish second on the Hornets in the game.
Malik Miller led three double-figure scorers for Morgan State with 20 points.
The Hornets (2-23; 0-12 MEAC) will close out the regular season with road games at Coppin State (Feb. 28) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (Mar. 3).
